Building skills for tomorrow: How Moulding supports the next generation
As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, the Moulding apprenticeship programme continues to offer individuals valuable hands-on experience coupled with comprehensive training that spans both the practical and theoretical aspects of building.
A year of significant achievements
Over the past year, our apprentices have been integral to numerous projects, showcasing their growing expertise in both traditional and modern construction techniques. This blend of old and new methodologies is crucial as Moulding specialises in the restoration of historic properties as well as the construction of new country houses, demanding a wide range of skills that our apprentices master through diverse work experiences.
James, who started with us as a Carpentry Apprentice, and has recently advanced to Contracts Manager, reflects on his journey:
“My journey at Moulding has been shaped by my apprenticeship and an HNC qualification in the built environment.
Both the hands-on training and knowledge from studying with Southampton Solent University helped me develop skills in project management, building regulations, surveying, and sustainability. This foundation supported my progression from Site Supervisor to Construction Manager, and now as Contracts Manager. I’m grateful for the opportunities at Moulding and look forward to continuing to contribute to the company’s success while advancing my development”
Spotlight on new talent
This year, we were pleased to welcome newcomers Ben, Casey, and Tyler, who started their journeys as Carpentry Apprentices in September. Their strong enthusiasm and evident commitment shine through as they participate in diverse training sessions aimed at enhancing their skills. Casey, sharing his experience, notes,
“Learning old-style restoration techniques has been incredibly fulfilling, providing me with skills that go beyond the typical new-build projects.”
Expanding Skills Across the Board
After successfully completing his Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations in 2024, Tom has taken a significant step forward by becoming a Bricklayer Improver. His journey exemplifies the continuous learning and advancement opportunities provided at Moulding, reflecting our commitment to developing every apprentice’s potential.
Learning and growing together
Our apprenticeship programme not only focuses on skill development but also on integrating apprentices into our Moulding community, where they can learn from seasoned professionals and each other. This supportive environment ensures that each apprentice, like Tyler can thrive:
“Working on unique homes and learning directly from experts gives me a strong foundation in construction that classroom learning alone could not offer.”
Looking Ahead
As we look to the future, Moulding is dedicated to continuing this tradition of excellence. Our ongoing investment in the next generation is not just about building structures but also about forging lasting careers in the construction industry, ensuring that our legacy of quality and integrity endures.
We are proud of our apprentices’ progress and are excited about the potential they have to shape the future of construction.
The success of Moulding’s apprenticeship programme is down to the commitment and expertise of our staff. Their dedication to passing on valuable skills and knowledge is crucial for nurturing the next generation of construction professionals. By continuing this tradition, we not only invest in the future of our industry but also ensure the preservation of exceptional craftsmanship for generations to come.
